There are numerous toothbrushes and toothpastes on the market today, making it difficult to select the best one for you. However, here are a few tips to help you choose the best one:
Look for soft bristles toothbrush.
It is recommended by the professionals to use soft bristles toothbrush as it gently massages the gums and minimises the enamel wear on your teeth.
Choose a toothbrush with a flexible neck.
Flexible neck toothbrush helps in balancing the pressure from your gum and minimise the enamel wear.
Go for electric toothbrushes
Electrical toothbrushes are more effective and safer on the gums. The oscillating motion is very effective in cleaning plaque from your teeth.
Change your toothbrush every three months.
Gum disease can also be caused by your toothbrush, which collects germs with each use. As a result, it is recommended that you replace your toothbrush every three months after use.
Go for toothpaste with fluoride.

2. Brush your teeth correctly.

- When brushing your teeth, use gentle strokes. You don’t need to apply too much pressure to remove plaque or food stains because the soft-bristled brush and toothpaste will do the majority of the work.
- Brush your teeth at least twice a day, right after you wake up and before you go to bed. Brush in between meals if possible to keep your breath fresh throughout the day.
- Brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes. The most common mistake is to rush through brushing, which leaves bits of plaque and food debris in hard-to-reach areas of your mouth.
- Following that, thoroughly rinse your mouth with water. Mouthwash isn’t necessary for good oral health, but it does help keep your mouth fresh and cool. A good idea is that before leaving the house, use an alcohol-free mouthwash as a final rinse.
3. Use dental floss.
Dental floss aids in the removal of food particles and bacteria from between our teeth. Flossing on a regular basis is essential for maintaining healthy teeth. Here are some tips on how to properly use dental floss.
- Cut about 18 inches of dental floss and wrap each end around your left and right index fingers.
- Hold the floss taut with your thumbs. Start with the ends and gently slide the floss between your teeth from side to side.
- Wrap floss around teeth and under gum line. When flossing, be careful not to use too much pressure because this can cause bleeding gums.
- Make sure that you only use the clean parts of the floss so that you don’t end up pushing food particles deeper into the spaces between your teeth.
- To carefully remove the floss, slide it from left to right while pulling it downwards in the opposite direction.
